All trainers listed on this page rely on scientifically-based positive reinforcement training rather than punitive, corrections-based methods. They are wonderful resources to help you build and strengthen a relationship with a newly adopted dog, or for additional help with addressing behavioral challenges in a foster or adopted pup.

  • Control Unleashed based outside Philadelphia. Leslie McDevitt offers in-person behavioral and training consultations as well as phone/video consultations.
  • Dog Training in the City in Philadelphia. Carol Siegrist, former training director for the PSPCA, offers private and group classes in manners and obedience, as well as behavior modification consultations.
  • Fresh Start Dog Training offers group classes and in-home consultations in the Plymouth Meeting, Ambler, Blue Bell, and Conshohocken areas.
  • K9Jym in Colmar, PA. Offers basic obedience classes as well as dog sports (agility, flyball, Rally-O).
  • K-9 Training & Behavioral Therapy in Philadelphia. Offers basic obedience, manners, and house training, as well as behavioral consultations.
  • Lisa Berkenstock offers classes at Horsham Vet and Rockledge Veterinary Clinic, focusing on pet dog manners. "Perfect Pittie" classes also available for pit bulls and pit mixes only.
  • Opportunity Barks, headed by Leigh Siegfried, has locations in Bucks County and Southwest Philadelphia. Manners and obedience training. Agility-for-fun and nosework classes are offered as well. Puppy socialization parties available weekly. Leigh also offers private classes and phone/video consultations.
